These include Tarpoon (record catch is 180 lbs), snook (capture and release only during certain times of the year), redfish, Spanish and king mackerel and pompano.

One of the most interesting aspects of Punta Gorda, Florida are the murals. Currently 23 murals cover the sides of buildings throughout the city. This is an on going project by the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society. Each one of the murals tells part of the story of the rich history of Punta Gorda.
Since 1961 the Charlotte County Art Guild has made its home in Punta Gorda. In the early days they met at the local high school. Today,they have the Punta Gorda Visual Arts Center that hosts classes, exhibitions and has two major galleries showcasing the work of local artists.
