Venice, Florida. Otherwise known as the shark tooth capital of the world. Jessie Knight and his family moved from New York to purchase 600 acres of land to set up a very prosperous cattle ranch. Other settlers had areas named after them. Roberts Bay carries the name of Robert Rickford Roberts who purchased 120 acres for farming.

Blackburn Point, Blackburn Bay and Blackburn Road are named for the Blackburn family, another family of successful farmers, who owned another 268 acres of Florida. Another person who contributed to the growth of Venice, Florida was Venice, Italy native Frank Higel.

When it came time to name the city, Mr. Higel submitted the name Venice after his hometown in Italy. It was accepted and John Nolan, a well known city planner, was recruited to model Venice, Florida after its Italian namesake. Even today, the city retains this look and feel. The Triangle Museum was set up for the sole purpose of documenting and providing residents as well as visitors with the areas history.

Venice Beach, Florida is just over 7 acres of white sand and is one of the cleanest beaches in the United States and is a certified Blue Wave beach by the Clean Beaches Council. Lifeguards are on duty all year round. The beach also provides a coral reef that is a popular attraction to divers.

Waterford Golf Course received the Best of Venice award in 2004 and is listed as one of the top ten golf courses in Southwest Florida.

Manatee State Park provides offer canoeing, hiking, horse trails and camping. The Little Manatee River is part of a state aquatic preserve that also provides fishing and an abundance of local wildlife.

This is highly affordable when compared to other Florida locations, and the crime rate is low. Venice is also mostly sunny year round with temperatures falling between a 50 degree low and a 90 degree high.
